Pagebluk bercerita tentang sebuah desa di lereng Gunung Merbabu yang dilanda wabah yang disebut “pagebluk”, di mana sejumlah kematian terjadi dalam waktu yang relatif singkat. Seorang sesepuh Gunung Merapi, Mbah Surip, menyelidiki kejadian aneh tersebut didampingi oleh Pak Bayan (kepala desa), sehari setelah desa itu ditinggalkan oleh sebagian besar penduduk desa.
Pagebluk tells the story of a village on the slopes of Mount Merbabu that was hit by an outbreak called “pagebluk,” in which several deaths occurred in a relatively short amount of time. An elder of Mount Merapi, Mbah Surip, investigated the strange incident accompanied by Mr. Bayan (head of the village) the day after most villagers abandoned the village.

Konsep film ini sudah dibuat sejak 2015 dan diproduksi secara mandiri dari 2016 hingga 2019. Pagebluk juga menggunakan talenta lokal dan lokasi sebenarnya di sebuah desa di lereng Gunung Merbabu (> 1000m dpl). Sebagian besar pengambilan gambar di luar ruangan benar-benar dilakukan dalam situasi berkabut untuk mendapatkan efek yang natural. Tak disangka, pandemi COVID-19 2020 datang, dan film ini sangat mencerminkan situasi terkini. Pagebluk adalah tentang perilaku manusia dan kemarahan alam, dan bagaimana hidup selaras dengan lingkungan.
The concept of this film has been made since 2015 and produced independently from 2016 to 2019. The Plague (Pagebluk) also uses local talents and actual location in a village on the slopes of Mount Merbabu (> 1000m asl). The outdoor shooting was primarily done in the fog to get a natural effect on the scene. Unexpectedly, the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic came, and The Plague (Pagebluk) perfectly reflected the current situation. Pagebluk is about human behavior and the anger of nature, and how to live in harmony with the environment.
Himawan Pratista adalah seorang kritikus film yang juga pembuat film independen, penulis naskah, editor serta pengajar film di akademi film di Kota Yogyakarta. Ia mengajar film sejak tahun 2003 serta pula menulis beberapa buku teori film. Pada tahun 2006, ia adalah satu dari pendiri Komunitas Film Montase yang meraih predikat Komunitas Film Terbaik di Indonesia dalam ajang Apresiasi Film Indonesia tahun 2015. Film-film yang diproduksinya adalah bertema lingkungan dan budaya lokal. Ia selalu terlibat dalam produksi film pendek Montase dan sebagian besar di antaranya meraih prestasi, baik lokal maupun internasional. Ia secara reguler menulis kririk film di website montasefilm.com.
Himawan Pratista is a film critic who is also an independent director, scriptwriter, editor, and lecturer at the film academy in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. He has been teaching film since 2003-2019 and also has written several books about film. Memahami Film (Understanding Film) is his famous book in the country. In 2006, he was one of the founders of Montase Film Community, that has won the best film community award in 2015 (montase.org). He was involved in all Montase production shorts, and most of the films have achieved excellent results, both local and international film festivals. Most of the works he produces are on the environment and local culture theme. He also writes critics regularly at montasefilm.com (Indonesian & English).
